TROOP 50 Activities

Death Valley, CA Campout

A Scout is adventure seeking!

We enjoy hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, rock-climbing and so much more.  Each Scout can earn Merit Badges for these activities, as well as more than 130 other merit badges for sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers.  As a scout led troop, we always look forward to going out and exploring the great outdoors. With the help of  our tenacious adult volunteers and parents we safely plan as many activities as possible.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

After being instructed in appropriate mountain biking techniques and safety, the scouts have gone on mountain biking trips through the Santa Monica Mountains, Big Bear and other slopes.

AQUATICS

After taking a BSA-regulated swim test the scouts can go on a number of water-based activities, the scouts can do anything on the water from kayaking down the Colorado River, to going down class 3 and 4 rapids.

ROCK CLIMBING

In February, we plan to go rock climbing in Joshua Tree National Park. This activity is so exciting for the Scouts, who learn safe methods under the watchful eyes of a certified rock climbing instructor.

BACKPACKING

Troop 50 is known for our high-adventure backpacking trips. The backpacking program starts in the late spring with short hikes over several weekends, then increasing in difficulty and culminating in a 50-mile/10+ day trip through the Sierras, Yosemite, or Philmont Scout Ranch.

MARKSMANSHIP

Our Scouts practice archery and learn to handle firearms safely and responsibly under the one-on-one training and guidance of certified instructors.

SUMMER CAMP

Every summer our troop spends 7 days at a BSA camp. In recent years, Troop 50 has gone camping at Chawanakee on Shaver Lake (featuring fishing, robotics, and wilderness survival), Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island (featuring scuba diving, and kayaking), and Camp Geronimo in Arizona (featuring horseriding, hiking, metalworking, and marksmanship).
